Handcrafted Denim Art – Jan’s Iconic Outfit at Rotterdam Art Week 2025
From March 26 to March 30, 2025, Rotterdam transforms into a vibrant stage for art and culture during Rotterdam Art Week. This year, our dear friend Jan van den Enk shined in a unique, handcrafted denim outfit by IF DENIM – a true masterpiece and a tribute to craftsmanship and creativity.
The Creation of an Iconic Garment
Exactly one year ago, the idea was born to design a special outfit for Jan: a long skirt with a cropped denim jacket. But not just any skirt – each of the 12 panels was made entirely unique. This masterpiece features 73 buttons, 14 zippers, 12 pockets, 54 belt loops, and a combination of nine different pairs of jeans. A design full of denim folklore, detailed waistbands, and craftsmanship that demands admiration.
With a team of 15 people, including our talented students, the creative process began. Everyone worked on their own panel without knowing exactly what the final result would look like. But one thing was certain: it would be a showstopper. This unique outfit was passionately and expertly crafted by Sharifah, Chay, Isa, Puck, Vincent, Jodé, Zoë, Dané, Isabella, Lee, and Yanto.
A Royal Presence at Rotterdam Art Week
During the official opening of Rotterdam Art Week, it quickly became clear that Jan’s outfit was a true eye-catcher. Strolling and twirling through Ahoy, he captured the attention of many visitors. With a pack of IF DENIM business cards in his pocket, he introduced the audience to our brand and our artisanal denim creations.
A special moment occurred when Jan handed his first business card to a cloakroom attendant. To his surprise, she recognized our store on Zwaanhals, a place she often walked past but had never entered. Jan summed up the moment perfectly with his closing remark: “I felt like royalty!”
